What are hair extensions?
Hair extensions are lengths of either artificial or real human hair extensions attached to a person’s own hair to create a hairstyle that is longer, with more volume and texture. Keith Kane International is a hair extensions specialist salon in Belfast, that specialises in Great Lengths Hair Extensions.
Can anybody have hair extensions applied?
Most people can have hair extensions applied but there are some scalp conditions that are not incompatible with hair extensions, such as psoriasis, dermatitis or eczema. However, the severity of these conditions can vary and so can be thoroughly assessed at your consultations.
How long does my natural hair need to be?
This again can vary from person to person, but we advise your natural hair to be long enough to cover the bonds of the hair extensions, so at least a few inches long.
Is there anything I need to do prior to the consultation?
For the consultation, we need to have a full indication of your hair type and condition, and so we strongly advise your hair is freshly washes and dried on the day of your consultation. We also recommend that if you plan to change the colour of your hair, you do this before having your hair colour matched so we can get the right blend of colour of hair extensions.
What can I expect at the consultation?
At the consultation, you have the opportunity to ask any questions you might have and to discuss what you hope to achieve from your hair extensions. We will ask you lots of questions about your hair type and lifestyle and depending on your answers we will discuss your individual aftercare regime.
Can I wash the hair?
As the Remy hair extensions we use are 100% natural human hair, you can wash and style your hair extensions just as you would your own hair. To maintain the quality of your hair extensions regular washing is essential. However, hair extensions that have just been applied should not be washed with 24 hours of being applied.
Can I use heated styling appliances on my hair?
As these are hair extensions made from 100% natural human hair, and they are not synthetic, they can be treated like your own natural hair, and so styled with hot tools such as a curling wand and strengtheners.
Do I need to use special products to care for my hair extensions?
To keep the bonds in a good condition, we strongly advise that you wash your hair with oil, alcohol, and sulphur free shampoo. If you regularly use heating stylish tools, we also strongly recommend that you use an oil free heat protection product for your hair extensions.
Can I swim with hair extensions?
Yes, you can still swim with hair extensions however you should avoid prolonged exposure to water or fully submerging your hair in water for long periods of time as it will make the bonds wet, and can cause them to soften which will often result in excessive shedding of the hair extensions.
Can I use sun beds with hair extensions?
You can use sun beds whilst wearing hair extensions but it is important to wash your hair if you experience excessive perspiration.
Can I use sauna/steam rooms with hair extensions?
Ideally, to ensure the bonds of the hair extensions don’t soften or weaken, we would generally recommend you avoid using saunas or steam rooms whilst having hair extensions applied.
Can I exercise whilst wearing hair extensions?
Yes, you can still exercise and play sports with hair extensions; we just recommend tying your hair in a loose pony tail or plait and washing your hair immediately after exercise.
Can I remove the Remy hair extensions by myself?
We strongly advise again removing your own hair extensions, as this can often lead your own natural being damaged in the process if not very careful.
